Loans of works

Public entities and private legal entities may borrow works from the Frac Île-de-France collection for temporary exhibitions in France and abroad. They must guarantee that the work is accessible to the public and that the work and its author are promoted.

Loan terms and conditions

Requests are reviewed and accepted subject to the condition of the works and provided that minimum requirements for transport, climate, lighting, and security are met. Requests must be submitted at least three months before the start of the exhibition.

Loans abroad require additional administrative procedures—in particular, authorization to leave French territory from the relevant administrative authorities—which add an additional one to two months to the processing time.

The costs of packaging, transport (shipping of the work if necessary), insurance, framing, video duplication, supplies related to the activation of the works, and installation are the responsibility of the borrower. Restoration costs may also be borne by the borrower, after consultation with the Frac’s collection department.

Formalize the request

The loan application must be completed and signed by the person responsible for the organization that will sign the loan agreement.

The letter must specify:

  • the name of the borrowing organization;
  • the name and full address of the exhibition venue;
  • the title of the exhibition;
  • the start and end dates of the exhibition;
  • a synopsis of the project;
  • a list of the works requested, including, where possible, their inventory numbers;
  • the presentation and security conditions of the exhibition venue (“Facility report”);
  • the full contact details of the person in charge of the file;
  • the full contact details of the person in charge of the organization, signatory of the loan agreement.

The request should be addressed to Céline Poulin, Director of Frac Île-de-France.

The email should be sent to: colohou@fraciledefrance.com (Collection Manager) and bkihm@fraciledefrance.com (Deputy collection manager).

Loan agreement

The agreement authorizing the loan of one or more works must be signed by the borrower and the director of the Frac before the works are removed. The insurance certificate for the works, covering the entire duration of the loan (including: duration of the loan; round-trip transport; three-week period from the date of return) must be received by the Collection Department before the works are removed. Without this certificate, the works cannot leave the storage facilities.
