Acquisitions

As part of its core mission to expand the collection, the Frac Île-de-France acquires new works each year. Its acquisition policy is guided by four main priorities:

  • Acquiring works resulting from collaborative and socially engaged practices, particularly those incorporating the issue of disability (learn more about accessibility at the Frac) ;
  • Practicable works or works for use: protocols to activate, furniture, video games, board games, works dedicated to specific senses (touch, smell, etc.), small format works for the Flash collection project;
  • Develop the acquisition of works dealing with contemporary imagery (videos, photographs, works co-created with AI, etc.);
  • Develop the acquisition of emerging practices in Île-de-France, where the artistic pool is abundant, in order to support young creation.

Application procedure

Applications are closed for 2025, the schedule and form for the 2026 acquisition process will be available soon.

To apply, please complete the online form. A PDF application file will need to be uploaded at the end of the process.

The application file in PDF format must contain the following elements:

  • CV;
  • A biography and/or a text presenting the artist’s practice;
  • A selection of works (max. 5) with good-quality images, detailed labels and prices including VAT (transport included);
  • Portfolio of 10 pages maximum;
  • A selection of press articles.

It is possible to submit a maximum of 5 works per artist. Galleries can present a maximum of 3 artists.

Unsolicited applications are reviewed by the technical acquisition committee, which meets in September.

Artistic committee

The artistic committee is in charge of proposing works and also of studying unsolicited applications to enrich the collection. It meets once or twice a year to draw up a list of proposals, which is then submitted to the vote of the Frac’s Board of Directors for acquisition.

The committee is currently made up of:

  • Jean de Loisy, art critic and curator
  • Gaël Charbau, independent curator and artistic director
  • Daisy Lambert, independent curator
  • Céline Poulin, director of Frac Ile-de-France
  • Marie Voignier, artist

A representative of the Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs and a representative of the Île-de-France Regional Council attend meetings in an advisory capacity.
