A group of young people aged 15 to 18 from the Carré de Vincennes carried out an exhibition based on works from the Frac’s collection in connection with the “decor” theme. Called Whose Utopia, in homage to the work of Cao Fei, it is presented at the Carré until 16 February.

The decor that surrounds us is a reflection of our society, an environment that represents us and speaks about us (Frédéric Lefever, Lynne Cohen, Thomas Bayrle, Seulgi Lee). There is a close relationship between the setting and the person who inhabits it, which sets up a form of narration.

The set can also serve as a basis for the construction of a story, to create particular atmospheres, sometimes idealistic or mysterious. This is a dimension that can be found in particular in film productions (Dara Birnbaum, Florence Paradeis, Mac Adams, Pierre Bismuth, François Curlet).

It also functions as a support allowing us to project ourselves into a dream world, a world of utopias and fantasy (Richard Fauguet, Bruno Persat, Florence Doléac) or sometimes a world of political commitment (Cao Fei).
