For the first time, Frac Île-de-France is taking part in the Nuits de la lecture, this year devoted to the theme of the body. This event is an opportunity to invite artists from the exhibition 40 ans du Frac ! Gunaikeîon currently on show at Les Réserves, and to compare their works with texts from different literary worlds (thrillers, science fiction, etc.).
In readings and lectures, artists Laura Burucoa, Safouane Ben Slama and Alice Jacquelin, researcher and “detective story teacher”, will link their work to the literary imaginations of authors who have played an important role in their artistic careers.
Point de départ (Starting point)
Sound and visual installation by Safouane Ben Slama
From 4pm to 8pm, every 10 minutes
After studying philosophy, Safouane Ben Slama turned to photography. Two of the series he is showing at the Réserves du Frac Île-de-France (Éloge de l’ombre, presented for the first time at La Boîte à Tunis, and J’préfère quand c’est réel, taken in the Essonne département as part of his artistic residency at CAC Brétigny), show people from behind. This photographic process is characteristic of his work, in which bodies become projection spaces for the imaginary.
For the Nuits de la lecture, Safouane Ben Slama is proposing a sound and visual installation combining readings of the founding texts of his artistic practice with the projection of photographs taken in Africa and the Middle East.
En attendant les voitures volantes (Waiting for flying cars)
Performed lecture by Laura Burucoa
5pm, duration: 45min
From 2019 to 2021, Laura Burucoa led a co-creation residency at the CAC de Brétigny. During these two years, every Thursday and Friday, she opened her studio to students from the nearby high school, as and when they met her and had free time. In a DIY radio studio, they discussed stories and current affairs, the better to speculate on more or less immediate futures. Some of these narratives gave shape to textile paintings, currently on display at Les Réserves. These pieces were co-created with Sara Bouazzaoui, Yasmine Kicha and Shveta Lebonheur, whom we met during the residency, and will be unhooked from the wall and activated during this performance.
Somewhere between documentary and fiction, Laura Burucoa invites us to delve into these science-fiction stories, with the concerns and desires of their authors as a subtext.
