At a moment when Poland joins the European Union, le Plateau explores the diversity of contemporary creation in a country which sits at the crossroads of western and eastern cultural influences, and whose burgeoning artistic scene attacks political, social, and economic issues of extreme importance.A true moment of discovery, this exhibition brings together artists as diverse as Elzbieta Jablonska, Leon Tarasiewicz, Monika Sosnowska, whose work was shown in 2002 at Manifesta, as well as Andrej Wroblewski, a major Polish artist whose complex work questions the problematics present within the field of painting during the first half of the 20th century.Painting, installation, and performance allow these artists to escape convention : by manipulating manufactured, everyday objects, each one of them attempts to question our surrounding reality, using sensibility as a means to face up to an ever-changing society, and attempting to shatter the waves of mass consumption.
